Fatal Crash in Mecklenburg County

CORNELIUS - On August 30, 2003 at 10:56 Cornelius Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a 10-50 with a vehicle fire. Cornelius 11 arrived on scene and advised there was no fire but he had four people trapped in two vehicles.

     North Meck Rescue was requested for assistance as well as both helicopters from Med-Center Air. Davidson Fire Department was added to the call to set up the landing zone for the helicopters. Upon the arrival of Engine 4 the crew began the extrication of two people from the SUV and Ladder 4 arrived to start extrication on the two people in the passenger car.

     Engine 3 and Rescue 13 arrived to assist with extrication and patient care. North Meck Rescue 7 arrived and assisted with the extrication of victims from the SUV. Two patients were pinned and two were entrapped, one of each in both cars.

     Two patients were transported by Med-Center Air and one was transported, priority one, by Medic. One of the victims was a fatality and had to be extricated from the car. All units cleared the scene at 13:44.

     A special thanks goes to all Cornelius Members, Cornelius PD, North Meck Rescue and Davidson Fire Department for all of their help.
