ROCK HILL - The Charlotte Fire Department
responded on a mutual aid call Wednesday, October 8, 2003 for a massive
fire at Culp Petroleum in Rock Hill.
An elderly man lost control of his vehicle, crashed
through a fence and struck a tank. The tank exploded on impact, but the
driver was able to escape.
York County, SC units responding included all four Rock
Hill stations, Lesslie, Newport, Riverview, Clover and Oakdale Fire
Departments. No injuries were reported.
Charlotte Fire responded with three tankers as well as
a bulk transport of foam. CFD companies assisted units already on scene
with heavy foam applications. By 19:00, the majority of the fire had
been knocked down, and no further exposures were endangered.
