Mark T. Franklin (1957-2003)

CHARLOTTE - It is with deep regret and sadness that we report the sudden passing of Charlotte FireFighter Mark Franklin on the morning of November 30, 2003. Mark, 46, was a dedicated member for 21-years with the Charlotte Fire Department. He joined the CFD in 1982 after graduating from Myers Park High School and earning his degree at Catawba College in Physical Education. He worked many years in some of the busier fire stations, including #10 on Remount Road and his final assignment at Station #2 on South Blvd where he was the Engineer for Engine Company 2.

     A loving husband and father, Mark leaves behind his wife Robin, of 18 years and two sons Brock and Chance. A service to celebrate the life of Mark Franklin will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road. A graveside service will follow at Sharon Memorial Park on North Sharon Amity Road. Pallbearers accompanying Mark are his fellow firefighters from Charlotte Fire Station 2. Honorary pallbearers with be the other members of the Charlotte Fire Dept.

     Mark suffered an on the job injury on April 18, 2003. He died from complications from surgery. As a result, the Charlotte Fire Department is now considering this a Line of Duty Death.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials made in remembrance of Mark T. Franklin to the Franklin Children’s Scholarship Fund, C/O Charlotte Fire Department Credit Union, 2100 Commonwealth Ave. Charlotte, NC 28205 A guest book is available to sign via the Obituaries listing website at www.charlotte.com.
