What is the CFP refund policy?
If you would like to cancel your
subscription for any reason, we will gladly refund the outstanding balance on your account. If you cancel your subscription in the first
thirty days of initiating service, we will give you a complete refund. Unless
otherwise requested, you will be mailed a check for the refund amount.
I don’t have a pager yet, but want to get one. Should I
get the pager first, or subscribe to CFP first? What are the steps to take?
CFP doesn’t sell or lease pagers ourselves. We have
“preferred vendors” that we can assist you with to obtain a pager. Depending on
whether you want to lease or purchase the pager, we can provide you with
information to assist in your decision about choosing a paging carrier. If you
wish, you can initiate service with a paging company such as
Arch or Metrocall
on their websites. The only item we will need to provide CFP service to you
after you get the pager will be the phone number of the unit.
How can I get a brochure?
If you would like to have a brochure, download one
here.
What weather alert options are available to members?
Members of CFP can now receive for free severe weather
alert information directly from the National Weather Service as it is
issued. This information is delivered on
a per county basis. You can choose as many or a few counties as you desire. We
feel that it is important to provide this information to our members out in the
field and do not charge any fees for it.
These are the various messages that are broadcast:
Severe
thunderstorm watches.
Severe
thunderstorm warnings.
Tornado
warnings.
Flash flood
warnings.
Special
weather statements.
I’m not a fire buff, but understand that I can get just Weather information
now. Is that true?
Yes. We can now provide severe weather information on a per
county basis for North and South Carolina. If you
do not want to fully join CFP and receive fire information, we can send just
weather alerts
to the device of your choice for $4 a month. This is available as a yearly
subscription only ($48). You can now initiate this service on our web site
here.
I would like to subscribe, but don’t feel comfortable using
a credit card on-line. What are my options?
The on-line order form has an option to choose for
ordering by check or money order. Simply fill out the form. We will initiate
service and mail you an invoice. You will have thirty days to return payment. Go
to the order form
now.
How can I get a receipt for payment of my CFP subscription?
Email us a request for a receipt. We can email you a pdf
document that you can print out.
How do I report an emergency incident?
By
calling the toll free Emergency Incident Reporting System, also called the
HOT LINE. You will be provided the number when you join. If you are already a member and need the
number again, email a request and we can page you with the information.
By
calling an in-service dispatcher on Nextel Direct Connect, also called FIRE
COMM. Use the following ID numbers: 150*541*20, 150*541*1, 150*103417*5.
Via
email. You will be provided the address to use when you join. If you are already a member and need the
address again, email a request and we can page you with the information.
What types of incidents should be reported?

How do I
report an item of interest that is not an emergency?
Submit to the CFP Email groups at yahoogroups.com or call
the non-emergency line at 1-866-221-8221, Option 2, or send email to
cfp700@carolinasfirepage.com.
What
happened to the old Hot Line and Non-emergency Line numbers?
These numbers were part of the PageNet system and are no
longer in-service. Please use only the
new numbers.
Who are
the CFP Dispatchers?
Dedicated individuals who enjoy monitoring multiple fire
department agencies in their areas. They listen to as many departments as they
can as much as they can. They enjoy sharing this info with others, and are
interested in actively participating in the network. Procedures and guidelines
have been developed over the years to assist in their training and operations.
While dispatchers are not paid for their participation, they do receive the CFP
service for free.
Current Dispatchers:
I might be
interested in becoming a CFP Dispatcher. What can you tell me about that?
When someone shows interest in becoming a CFP
Dispatcher, we usually evaluate a.) their area of monitoring, b.) their past
level of participation. Individuals who rarely call in or rarely submit
incidents are probably not favorable candidates to be a dispatcher. If you are
interested in dispatching, give us a call to discuss it. We can always use good
dispatchers.
I haven’t
received a page in several hours. How can I check and make sure everything is
working OK?
If you send yourself a numeric test page or alpha page from
your provider's web site, your device should be receiving. If you still have doubts, drop us an email. We
can review recent traffic for you. Don't forget that you can also page yourself
using the following email format:
cfpmembershipnumber@cfp.dnsalias.net
We also maintain a
Network Status Page
that you can check.
How does
Nextel (Direct Connect) figure into the operation of CFP?
Dispatchers and members extensively use Nextel to coordinate
operations, report from on scene, and now take live incident info. Click
here
for ID numbers to call.
And now, a few words on Nextel etiquette: When
attempting to contact someone, simply "click" them once without saying anything.
If they are available, they will answer you. Never use the alert feature unless
you know for sure that someone might be operating on the fireground. Your
compliance with these simple rules will be greatly appreciated.
What happened to the CFP E-Page feature?
We now offer an enhanced service in lieu of the E-Page
feature. To page any active CFP member, format an email to xxx@cfp.dnsalias.net, where xxx
represents a member's CFP membership number.
Help! I
received a bill from my paging carrier, and there are charges for overcalls.
What’s up?
Members on Metrocall and Arch are eligible to receive
unlimited personal paging. If you receive a bill for overcalls, send us an
email with details and we will contact the appropriate paging company on your
behalf.
I would
like a sticker for my pager or phone. How do I get one?
We have three styles to choose from. Confirm your mailing
address, and we will send you your choice of sticker(s).

I sent a
message in using the “firereport” address, but got an “invalid address” message
back. Did my message not go through?
Your message probably did go through. It automatically
forwards to all dispatchers email boxes, but if you are not a member of the
Dispatcher’s email group, you will receive the “invalid address” message
back.
What is
meant by <DP> or delayed page? What exactly are the standards that are
applied?
If an incident is less than 30 minutes old, we do not “flag”
it as delayed. If an incident is older than thirty minutes, we will “flag” with <DP>
or <DEL PG> for delayed page. We attempt to clarify what time the
incident was provided, control times, alarm times, etc. If an incident is older
than six hours, we usually do not page it out.
I think I
would like to start/stop receiving the CFP NATIONAL pages. What should I do?
Just drop us an email and ask to change your service level.
You can now decide to receive Nationals based
on the following alarm levels. This may help reduce unwanted pager
traffic.
You can choose A2 (2nd alarms), A3 (3rd
alarms), A4 (4th alarms), or A5 (5th+ alarms).

I would
like to renew my subscription, but don’t feel comfortable using a credit card
on-line. What are my options?
Simply call us during business hours.
I see the
posts on the CFP email list at yahoogroups.com. Can anyone participate in
posting?
Absolutely! All
members are encouraged to participate in the email list.
I’m going
out of the area on business/vacation. What options are available to make sure I
don’t miss anything?
If you don’t have a device with nationwide service, we will
be glad to email you pages while you are gone or upon your return.
What are
the abbreviations at the end of a CFP NATIONAL page?
Visit our
National Affiliates page for a list of our National
Affiliates and their abbreviations..
Do you still mail out
membership kits?
No. To save time, we have attempted to place
all of the membership kit information on-line.
Am I
allowed to forward the pages or emails I receive to friends or others? What is
CFP’s copyright policy?
No, you are not allowed to forward any pages or messages you
receive to others. Occasionally we will send a page out reminding everyone of
the policy:
“All information transmitted over CAROLINAS FIRE PAGE is
intended for the sole use of our membership. Any dissemination, rebroadcast or
retransmission of this information without permission is prohibited. This
includes but is not limited to transmission via fax, e-mail, web sites, e-mail
groups and any form of paging. Violation of this policy will result in
immediate membership termination without refund.” © 2002 CAROLINAS FIRE PAGE
