| (This site is operating on a trial basis at
this time. We will announce the times that the Broadcast is active.)
On Wednesday, October 25, 2000, will be begin testing a new way to deliver emergency information to you. Please help us fine tune this new medium and give us feedback on its operation. For a few hours at a time, we will be broadcasting LIVE radio traffic from the departments in the Metro Triangle area. Initially, this may include the following (subject to change): - Raleigh Fire (*Headquarters/Dispatch & Tac-3/Fireground)
* Indicates Priority Channel. In addition, we may have broadcasts of National fire incidents. This would be verbally broadcast as it is received, prior to dispatch on the paging system. To listen, you will need to activate your internet connection (minimum 28.8k). Your computer will need a sound card and speakers. You will also need an audio player, either Real Audio or Winamp. If you listen to other fire broadcasts you probably already have one of these players. They are available free on the internet in many places. Once you are connected to the net, and have one of the players, go to the following: http://www.live365.com/home/index.html In the "Search for" box, type cfp, then click "Go" When you get the Search Results for Carolinas Fire Page, click the yellow speaker button ("Click to Listen"). Normally there is about a five to six second delay on the player. In the future, we may use this feature when these agencies have a significant incident that we have paged out on the system. If it works really well, we may be able to help other CFP members broadcast their departments! The Newell Fire Department in Mecklenburg County has a similar site up continuously broadcasting Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Check it out at: http://newellvfd.home.mindspring.com/dispatch.html Let us know about your experience and any ideas you might have. Send comments to cfp_dispatchers@egroups.com Thanks!
