| In the Spring
of 1999, CFP conducted a survey of its members with the intent of fine
tuning operations and delivering a more focused product to our membership.
The survey was conducted via email for all members and dispatchers. Members without email were mailed a survey upon their request. Members were asked to assign a numeric value to sections I through V below. Values were assigned as follows: 0 Not applicable to
me.
The number of respondents were divided into the total numeric value for a question, since some members chose not to respond to all questions. Section VI was in the format of "Complete the following statement...." The results are quite insightful and we hope to incorporate several changes as a result of the survey. Thanks for participating, CFP Dispatchers

| I.
NATIONAL PAGES
|
||
| I
would like to see CFP send only National third alarm fires and greater,
unless there is something extraordinary about a National second alarm.
|
2.5 | |
| I
receive too many fire pages.
|
1.6 | |
| I
would like to receive more fire pages.
|
3.9 | |
| I
think the amount of pages sent seems about right.
|
3.1 | |
| I
think the format for National pages provides enough interesting information.
|
3.9 | |
| I
understand the network abbreviations (BNN, HNAN, GCFN, etc.) at the end
of a National page.

| II.
CFP PAGES
|
||
| I think
the formatting of CFP (local) pages works well for the type of information
I am interested in.
|
4.3 | |
| I would like to receive
non-emergency information (fire buff info, new apparatus, fire TV shows,
etc.) via email as opposed to on the pager.
|
3.6 | |
| I would
prefer to receive more non-emergency information on the pager.
|
2.9 | |
| The number of up-dates dispatched
on larger incidents seems to make sense the majority of the time.
|
4.1 | |
| III.
CFP HOT-LINE
|
||
| I
like participating in the network by calling into the Hot-Line.
|
4.5 | |
| I wish instead of the Hot
Line, there was a live dispatcher to talk with.
|
3.5 | |
| Emergency
pages called into the Hot Line are dispatched in a timely manner most of
the time.
|
3.6 | |
| I have never called the
Hot Line.
|
1.9 | |
| IV.
GENERAL
|
||
| I know
how to contact CFP to report emergency and non-emergency information.
|
4.7 | |
| I enjoy the additional features
offered such as E-PAGE, the E-MAIL mailing list, and weather information.
|
4.9 | |
| I have
visited the CFP web site in the past.
|
4.8 | |
| I wish there was more interesting
content available to members on the CFP web site.
|
4.5 | |
| I am interested
in participating in the FIRE COMM system, using Nextel Direct Connect.
|
2.9 | |
| V.
PRICE INFO
|
||
| I think
the rate for the CFP service ($5/month) is reasonable.
|
4.7 | |
| I found the membership kit
I received in the mail helpful.
|
4.4 | |
| I think
the rate for service from PageNet is reasonable.
|
3.6 | |
| I have been disappointed
in PageNet and wish we had an alternative.
|

| VI. COMPLETION of STATEMENTS | ||
| The
thing I like best about CFP is:
"Seeing what is going on around the country." "Dependability." "Receiving the information as it is actually happening. Usually long before the media has received it." "It meets my needs to know about fires." "Getting emergency information as it is happening." "Knowing about the fires I can't get to or don't catch on the scanner; especially ones where I used to live in the eastern part of the state." "The people affiliated with it." "That everybody can participate." "A way for fire buffs, and folks that like the hobby to share information. A great way to know what's going on in the state." "The fact that the vast
majority of the information we receive is about incidents as they happen
rather than after the fact. I can read about it the next day in the
paper if I didn't care about knowing right away. It really adds to
the service in my opinion."
|
||
| The thing I like least
about CFP is:
"Not understanding the codes on the pages." "Due to the voluntary nature of reporting, some incidents go unreported." "Not enough pages! More fires!" "Too many NJ, NY and New England uneventful 2nd alarm fires that don't really mean that much to me." "Not enough members in Division 2." "The internal bickering among dispatchers over the quality of pages." "The pagers do not have a global delete." "I haven't found anything I don't like about the service." "The way multiple National pages are put in one page and consequently I usually forget to read the second half of the page and miss the info." "Not having more PINs for other different types of incidents to be paged out." "Not always having the time to participate like I would like to." "PageNet service in my area." (tower problems, missed pages) "Vague national pages with little information." "Not enough stuff called
in. More people need to monitor."
|
||
| Please
change the way:
"The National incidents are overlapped in the same message. I'd find it easier to read/review the message if each report was in its own message block." "Some of these crazy dispatchers send pages all wacky looking and out of format." "The computerized voice on the Hot Line." "Not much you can do about the paging companies." "I would like to be able to send an email to the dispatcher about a fire." "National pages are done." "You could change the types of National pages (such as third alarms and greater), but that would be the only change I would recommend. The service is nearly perfect as is." "Include frequencies." "Would like to see anything after midnight saved for the following morning." "Nothing!"
|
||
| Additional random comments:
"When I have called into the Hot Line, the length of available recording (60 seconds) seems too short." "I would appreciate the ability to email information to the dispatcher on duty." "I would appreciate the ability to silence CFP pages, while still being alerted of my personal pages." "I would like to see ... the frequency/channel/talk group reported more often." "Thank you for the survey and trying to improve CFP." "Overall, great network." "This is a part of my everyday life that I enjoy very much, and would surely miss it if it were not there." "I really love the whole
system. I would like to see email sub-groups, like an apparatus news
group. I would also like to see the web site with rosters, station
info and the like. Oh, and I would like a real fire truck for Christmas...."
